This animated poster was made as a fanart of the character Xiao, of the chinese award-winning game Genshin Impact.
The concept of this piece was to give this character a futuristic/cyberpunk-ish spin (considering he’s originally in an ancient mythological chinese environment), based on the neon lights of the contemporary streets at night.
The base of this piece was painted by hand, with watercolors. This base was then transformed in mainly three major illustrations through digital editing and drawing, working as key frames: a “normal” Xiao, a masked Xiao and a masked Xiao with his eyes covered. Several variations of the key frames were made in other colors to create the “glitching” effect of the transition in the final version.
