2nd concept piece.
“Moths” is an illustrated horror-fantasy story of 12 parts, telling the events of when a trio of close friends decides to make a picnic in a dark forest night. Upon finding a mystical moth, the group discovers that one of them is a moth collector, hunting each and every one he finds in his path. What he doesn’t know are the effects that this discovery may cause in one of the girls accompanying him.
The original idea of this story was created through elaborating three concept pieces that shared one same element: moths! With the aesthetics and characters of those pieces, I developed a full storyboard of the narrative. The finished concept arts were included as the key parts of the narrative (the transformation, the final blow and the union). The main underlying themes are gender violence, freedom and the perspective of society upon queer people. They manifest in the plot with how the man felt towards his female friend once he discovered she was “different”, making her a disgusting villain in his vision that needed to be contained, in contrast with how the other friend, a woman like her, felt.
