My first acrylic painting, “Between the Dead” was heavily inspired by the visuals and themes of the “Dia de los Muertos” festivities in Mexico. Using saturated colors such as yellow and red, I constructed a female character in the center, surrounded by cold blue-ish hands of the dead. She represents someone in the hands of death, like in a funeral: immersed in flowers from those who are burying her and being taken to the underworld. But her semblance is of peace, as someone who already accepted their fate.
This piece was featured on the seventeenth edition of the FGV (Getulio Vargas Foundation) student paper “Ágora”.
